How to Prepare for Your First Mobile Grooming Appointment
Updated July 23, 2026 · By the Royal Pawz USA team
Preparing for your first mobile grooming appointment is easy: you don't need to supply anything, because the van is fully self-contained. Just clear a spot for the van to park near your home, give your dog a quick potty walk beforehand, and be home at the start to hand them off and share any requests. Your card isn't charged until the groom is finished.
How do you get ready for a mobile grooming appointment?
Follow these simple steps before your groomer arrives.
Book and tell us about your dog
Choose your package and share your dog's breed, size, and any sensitivities, health conditions, or past grooming reactions when you book.
Clear a spot for the van to park
Leave room on your driveway or the street near your home so the fully-equipped van can pull up close. It runs on its own water and power — no hookups needed.
Give your dog a quick potty walk
A short walk before your appointment window helps your dog settle and stay comfortable during the groom.
Be home at the start to hand off
Plan to be home when the groomer arrives so you can introduce your dog and go over any specific requests. After that, you can head back to your day.
We groom one-on-one in the van
Your dog is the only pet in the van and gets calm, individual attention — typically about 1–2 hours depending on the package and coat.
Get photos and pay after the groom
We send before-and-after photos, and your card is only charged once grooming is complete and you're happy with the results.
What do I need to have ready?
Nothing — the van brings its own water, power, shampoos, towels, and equipment.
You don't need to provide a hose, an outlet, towels, or products. Just a parking spot near your home and access to your dog. If your dog uses a specific product for a skin condition, let us know and we'll accommodate it.
Do I need to stay home the whole time?
Only at the start — after the hand-off, most owners go back to work or errands while the groom happens in the van.
We recommend being home at the beginning to introduce your dog and talk through any requests. You don't have to stay outside for the full appointment; the groomer will let you know when your dog is ready. For a nervous dog's first visit, you're welcome to stay close by.
When exactly will the groomer arrive?
We give you an arrival window rather than an exact minute, because travel time and each dog's needs can shift the schedule slightly.
Because of Houston traffic and the care each dog before you needs, arrival times can vary a little within your window. We keep you posted, and if you're just outside our main service area we confirm any small travel fee before the appointment.
Frequently asked questions
What if my dog is nervous the first time?
That's common. Our groomers use fear-free handling and work at your dog's pace, and you're welcome to stay nearby for the first visit. Mobile grooming's calm, one-on-one setting usually helps nervous dogs settle faster than a busy salon.
What is your cancellation policy?
You can cancel free of charge with at least 72 hours' notice. Cancellations 24–72 hours before are subject to a 50% fee, and cancellations under 24 hours are non-refundable, since the time was reserved for your dog.
How do I pay?
You add a card when you book, but it's never charged until after the groom is complete and you're satisfied. Tips are welcome but never required.
